http://www.advancedfootankle.com Welcome to Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists of Arizona. My name is Dr. Antonius Su. I’m here to discuss discolored nails that may look like fungal nails. Discolored nails can vary in presentation and appearance. The nail plate can be ugly, deformed, and discolored in different shades. A discolored nail does not always mean an infection.
There are conditions that can cause deformed nails, which includes damaged nail root, arthritis condition, and fungal infection of the nail. A fungal culture is a must, prior to any treatment. In most cases, people come in with the assumption that they have a fungal nail infection because of the white and yellow discoloration of the nail and also the deformed nail plate. Fungal nail treatment ranges from conservation, such as topical antifungal, laser, and oral antifungal treatments, to aggressive treatments, which involves removal of the nail.
If you do have this condition, please call us for a consultation and possible treatment options.
