Jump-Starting the Healing Process with PRP

Comments (0)

Jump-starting the healing processYou’ve probably all had the experience of getting in your car after shopping at the Chandler Fashion Center or at Paradise Valley Mall in Gilbert, AZ, turning the key, and…nothing. Oh, no! Dead battery. If you are fortunate, some kindly soul will have a pair of jumper cables in the car to give you a boost and get you going again. When you need to jump-start your healing after a foot injury, we may use PRP therapy in a similar fashion to get you back in action.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is your own normal blood plasma in which platelets are concentrated and then re-injected into your foot. Why would we do this? Because platelets, in addition to helping your blood to clot, contain growth factors (forms of proteins) that help in healing.

With the boost of extra growth proteins at hand, the cells have better building blocks to begin repairing the damage and growing new cells more quickly. It’s like giving your car battery some extra “juice” to give it the power to turn over your engine. Once the engine is going again, your car functions normally and recharges the battery for future use (unless something else is wrong). The PRP boost gets all your cells functioning normally again, and the healing continues until the tissues have recovered.

PRP is not the first thing we will try for most injuries. However, for soft tissue problems like chronic plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendinitis, ligaments damaged during sprains, muscle pulls, or even for increase healing after surgeries, this therapy may give just the extra impetus you need to jump-start your healing.

Only with a full evaluation of your injury can we determine whether PRP might be the route to go, so call Advanced Foot & Ankle Specialists of Arizona and set up a time for us to examine your foot or ankle. You can reach our Chandler office at (480) 963-9000 or the Gilbert office at (480) 981-1800 to schedule, or do it right now online using our contact form. Let us help you say goodbye to chronic foot and ankle pain.
