Grafts, Wraps, and More: An Advanced Approach to Wound Care

Comments (0)

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that we’ve written about the dangers of foot wounds on many occasions. It’s not like getting a cut or scrape on your elbow.

Sores on legs and feet that just won’t heal pose serious long-term risks. They are far more likely than most other kinds of sores and injuries to linger and develop an infection. Those infections easily deepen and spread, putting your entire foot—or even your life—in jeopardy. Shockingly, those who develop foot wounds may have a lower 5-year life expectancy than even those diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, breast cancer, and other deadly conditions.

Wound Care

That’s why our practice is committed to aggressive wound care. We are passionate about using the latest and most advanced research, tools, and techniques, because you deserve the best possible chance to get better and preserve your quality of life.

Due to our advanced training and access to facilities at our own offices and the Chandler Wound Healing Center, we are able to offer treatment options and technologies far beyond the tools of traditional wound healing. They include:

  • AmnioFix. This medical-grade product is a composite membrane made from placental tissue—always voluntarily donated and rigorously screened after healthy, live births. When used as graft over an open wound or sore, it pulls “double duty.” Like a traditional graft, it provides a barrier against germs and debris. But it also provides a protein-rich healing matrix upon which your body can build new tissue—in other words, it accelerates your body’s ability to heal and close the wound.
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Many chronic wounds are hypoxic. This means the wound tissues have low levels of oxygen, which makes it harder for them to heal. In hyperbaric oxygen therapy, air pressure is temporarily and significantly increased within a compression chamber that surrounds the patient. This improves the circulation of oxygenated blood to the wound site, helps stimulate stem cell production, and even kills anaerobic bacteria—or in other words, promotes faster healing and reduces the risk of infection.
  • Other products. Our team has access to a wide variety of different dressings, compression wraps, off-loading devices, braces, grafts, and even skin substitutes. Rest assured, we will do absolutely everything in our power to ensure that your wound is clean, protected, and has the best possible odds for quick and complete healing.

Don’t let a chronic, infected wound turn your life permanently upside down. Call the Advanced Foot and Ankle Specialists of Arizona for immediate evaluation and treatment. To schedule, call us today at (480) 963-9000. We will see you as soon as possible.
